Bringing together live performances, upbeat DJs, face painters, performers, jugglers and lots more from the broad range of festival magic plus a facilitated 'jam on the jetty' we are looking forward to transform this day of the week into the perfect refuge for anybody wishing to escape the greyness of London and doesn't want to travel as far as a field (that could quite possibly be a field of mud these days anyway)

Monday the 30th - Cinema Libre present a George Carlin Tribute

This Monday Cinema Libre pays tribute to the comedian George Carlin who passed away last week of heart failure at the age of 71. Carlin is best remembered for the seven words you can never say on television and was once arrested after a performance in Milwaukee after saying them onstage. The charges were eventually dismissed by a judge in a clear victory for the First Amendment. We will be screening his 2005 stand up show 'Life is Worth loosing' considered one of his more hard hitting performances, plus a selection of clips and a retrospective 'George Carlin 40 years of Comedy'. This is a night for those who have been inspired by his stand up work to come and witness again, George at his most honest and realist. Its also a chance for those of you who haven't been introduced to this maverick and daring comic to discover one of the greatest social commentators of our time. If your a fan of Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce, David Cross etc or just someone that likes to hear the truth spoken out simply and plain, we highly recommend this evening to you.

George Carlins background

George Carlin, arguably, is the greatest and (after Lenny bruce) most influential stand-up comedian of all time. An Irish Catholic born and raised in the Morningside Heights neighbourhood of New York City, Carlin started out as a conventional comedian and had achieved a fair degree of success as a Bill Crosby style raconteur in nightclubs and on TV until the late 1960s, when he radically overhauled his persona. The new persona, which is more in line with who and what George Carlin is, has been "George Carlin" ever since and is what made him a great stand-up comedian. Carlin's forte is Lenny Bruce-style social and political commentary, spiced with nihilistic observations about people and religion peppered with black humour. He is also noted for his use of language. Carlin's notorious "Seven Dirty Words" comedy routine was part of a radio censorship case that made its way to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1978.

Tuesday Talks - Relaunched - this coming Tuesday the 1st of July

finally we can invite you again to this great series of events - previously known as New Horizons.
We are planning a rotation through different subjects including talks on SocioPolitical issues, Environmental Topics, Health and Nutrition as well as Spiritual and Philosophical Issues.

the first one in this series is called:

Real People Power

The first of an evening of talks, discussions, and plans on how we can all protect the environment and our civil liberties.

With the government trying to remove or ignore public consultation on important planning decisions like where to site new power stations, roads, airports, and open-cast coal mines, whether to renew Trident and build new nuclear power stations or invest in renewable electricity, and of course whether or not to go to war, it has never been more important to feel empowered to take a stand for what you believe in. When the democratic process fails then peaceful direct action is still an important right we have in this country.

We will be talking about the history of Direct Action and particularly the Road Protest movement, as well as current campaigns and how people can get involved.

So far confirmed as speaking is Phoenix from Circle Community and Climate 4 Change, a veteran road protestor and serial squatter and starter of community centres, who will be talking about his experiences of road protests from the 1990s to the present day, with photos, particularly of the current Save Tara campaign.

Representatives from other campaigns such as Greenham Common, Faslane, Reclaim the Streets, Manchester Airport, Newbury, Twyford Down, Nine Ladies, Thornborough Henges, Camp Titnore, Camp Bling, Stop the Pipe, and the recently formed 'Leave it in the Ground' are more than welcome to come and share their experiences with those new to protesting and those just curious.. If you have been involved in any of these campaigns and would like to speak please do get in touch with alex@thesynergyproject.org

and last but not least we need to inform you about some pretty disturbing news!

How the EU is planning to ban Natural Remedies and Health Supplements by 2010!

Silently in the background it seems that Bureaucrats in Brussels, Representatives of Pharmaceutical Corporations and Government Officials have been working on a widely unknown plan to ban many of the substances that we believe hold great beneficial properties.

The EU framework that is currently being pushed through its earlier stages is really going to bite between 2010 and 2011 when--unless pro-natural health interests like us can continue to positively influence the process--we could see:
  • massive restrictions on allowed ingredients, including vitamin and mineral forms, as well as botanicals
  • massive restrictions on maximum permitted doses of vitamins and minerals
  • massive restrictions on what can be said about any product with beneficial properties
  • imposition of pharmaceutical-type standards, making it difficult for many truly natural products to comply
This might mean that simple vitamin pills become illegal, claims about the benefit of garlic supplement a criminal offense and your shot of maca in your breakfast smoothie a thing of the past!!!

we recommend that you check the website of the Alliance for Natural Health and inform yourself to take action

"If people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny."
-- Thomas Jefferson (1762-1821), Third President of the USA, author of the Declaration of Independence.
