So - where to start?
Oh yes, the summer festivals. Well, its been fun, that's for sure. And what a rollercoaster it has been. It all started so well, with the Sunrise Celebration - which really was an amazing start into the summer - such a wonderful crew of well intentioned people to work with - creating a truly diverse family vibe festival. We probably had one of the most dynamic lineups that IDSpiral has ever seen - amplified by a truly mind-boggling opus sound system - too good to be true...
Here are a few images of the event:
Next on our list was the legenday Glastonbury festival - and you all know what happened there! Mud Mud Mud - unlike two years ago where it rained and stormed once properly at the onset of the festival - this time it just rained all the time - resulting in a river of mud being excavated by the last day - EPIC!
And after we just about managed to clean it all up - we setup again with even more effort for the Glade festival - the biggest festival of the season for us - and yes - you guessed it or know it: it rained again - and not a little bit! We were caught in the same floods that made headlines all through the media with schools being evacuated, houses drowning, roads flooding. It was incredible - and all we could do was yield into the situation. But admittedly it wasn't easy - as what we are passionate about creating is simply impossible within a field of mud! And yes, the clean up was fun once again!
At last the next festival of the season provided none of such challenges - the Electric Picnic in Ireland. The weather held and the arena we were part of was a real inspiration - the body and soul area! Given that this was the last event of the season for us it was only just that we had a fantastic time ourselves, something that most of our guests will have picked up on!
So indeed, a somewhat challenging, but also hugely rewarding summer in many aspects. It is in such difficult times that it really shows what we are made off - and to be working with a team like ours was in itself a blessing...

Ekopia
So - next we've got some big news for you
we are about to open a new venue in the very heart of Camden - on the corner of the High Street and the famous Camden Lock.
This ideas has been brewing for some time, not least inspired by the volatile nature of festival culture and its limitations when it comes to setting up a more refined environment. However, the idea has since grown way beyond this initial aspiration - the organization we are setting up right now is meant to be an outreach vehicle for positive change - reaching deep into the mainstream. Ekopia (that's the new name) is also aiming to become a showcase for alternative technologies and forward thinking business practices.
Centered around a daytime eco organic cafe, Ekopia will turn into a multimedia event space at nighttime with a vast variety of different offerings. If you want to find out more please
have a look here - suffice to say that we are very excited about the possibilities unfolding here.
The timeline for this new project is such that by the end of October we will conduct what we call a micro revamp of the premises and install a temporary cafe - dubbed the
InSpiral Lounge. We will then run this whist developing plans for the bigger pictures - which should be opening in spring 2009 - after extensive redevelopment work will have been carried out.
The final outcome might look something like this:
Job Opportunities
As it is we are still in the process of finalizing the team for Ekopia. There are a variety of different skills we are after:
* Switched on Chefs - the cuisine of Ekopia will be 'visionary vegetarian'
*
Front of House Staff - serving with an attitude - those working with us need to be passionate about environmental issues affecting our time and able to communicate them in positive and effective ways
* Builders and Carpenters - wanna work on a creative project and learn about sustainable strategies?
and various other opportunities -
have a look here to read up on them
beyond skills we are after a certain attitude towards life within the people we want to work with - if you think you got what it takes do send an email to
dom@ekopia.net and we'll send you some more info
so - that's it for now
we hope you will come and visit us in this new venture in Camden soon
we'll send you some updates very soon
all the best
Yours
